It's been twenty years since Laurie Strode encountered the wrath of Michael Myers. Even though he assumed to have burnt to a crisp at Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, Laurie fakes her death, changes her name to Keri Tate and heads west to become the headmistress of a very posh school in Northern California. Her personal life; however, is in shambles. She's divorced, has a rocky relationship with her son, developed quite a potty mouth and has a liver screaming for help louder than she ever did. Her witness protection plan ends up backfiring after Michael Myers, alive and well, offs Nurse Marion and finds out where Laurie is hiding. Thus begins a final showdown between brother and sister after Michael shortens the class list and frees up a faculty parking space. Even though a head did roll, this would not be the last family reunion.
I’ve had coffee breaks longer than Halloween H20. But Jamie Lee Curtis is back! Without an awful wig! So all is forgiven. Released at the height of the self-aware teen slasher movement of the late 90s, the film does a pretty good job of getting things back on track. Although it has a lean body count, despite the perfect opportunity to have multiple teen deaths, and at times it appears to be a Dawson's Creek (1998-2003) episode, Laurie Strode has a pretty intense showdown against her brother. The ending was quite definitive, and in my opinion, should’ve ended there. But it is called showbusiness after all, and there was more money to be made.

ReplyDeleteYeah, the Canfield Moreno estate is in my top 5 places to still visit. It's one of my favorite sequels.
