Kool & The Gang was formed in Jersey City, NJ in the early 60s consisting of brothers Robert and Ronald Bell and some of their high school buddies. The gang hit their stride in the 70s and early 80s with funky hits like Jungle Boogie, Ladies Night and Get Down on It. In 1980, they released their festive anthem Celebration, which has been played at every wedding and party ever since. Three years later, they returned to the top of the charts with their breezy ballad Joanna. For the video, Kool and The Gang head on down to Joanna's Diner. There, they serenade Joanna as she works hard for the money serving them coffee.

Mad Men delves into the world of advertising in 1960s Manhattan. In between cigarettes and drinks, the show explored the shady life of Don Draper/Dick Whitman and his cohorts at Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency. Mad Men was an Emmy fave thanks to its acting, writing and directing. The pilot was filmed in New York but once the show was picked up, production moved to Los Angeles.

I had never actually been to the Ossining train station before since it was not the train line I lived near. I was bummed to find out that the actual train station was not used. In the pilot, Don walks out of the ticketing office where the parking lot and some storefronts are seen in the background. But the Ossining train station has a bridge right outside the ticketing office. Perhaps the New Rochelle station was used since that's where The Draper House is.

Three long-lost college classmates are reunited after the suicide of one of their friends. After a very long lunch, they find out each of their husbands have left them for a younger woman. They set out for revenge but soon realize the payoff wouldn't be so satisfying and instead decide to start an organization to aid women in crisis with the help of their ex's checkbooks.
I caught this movie on cable one day and was rather entertained. Robert Harling of Steel Magnolias (1989) and Soapdish (1991) fame delivers a hilarious script with Goldie Hawn easily being the funniest first wife. Sarah Jessica Parker, Elizabeth Berkley and Victor Garber also account for some laughs among star-studded supporting cast. Lesley Gore's female anthem "You Don't Own Me" is a perfect fit for this light-hearted comedy about sisters doing it for themselves.
