Fleetwood Mac - Gypsy (1982)

Fleetwood Mac is my favorite band of all time and I'm just two weeks away from seeing them (for the tenth time) in concert so I figured why not post about them now.  Don't get me wrong, I love Stevie Nicks but I have a soft spot for the underrated Christine McVie.  Whosever team you're on, one can't deny that Gypsy is classic Stevie.  The second single from Fleetwood Mac's Mirage album just missed the top 10 in the fall of 1982, a fact that still bewilders me to this day.

It was a new decade and a new era for Fleetwood Mac with the channel formerly known as MTV at their disposal.  Never one to shy away from decadence, the band set out to make the most expensive music video to date.  It's easy to fall under Stevie's spell in the elaborately choreographed video when she's twirling about, casting her magic as she travels through time. Gypsy has the distinction of being the very first MTV World Premiere Video.

Stevie and friends dance in front of the old The Hollywood Athletic Club, which mades it debut in 1924 and was the tallest structure at the time.  A Nakatomi Plaza of the '20s if you will.  It's here that Hollywood royalty swam, played squash and took a sauna.  Today it used for office space, events and, once again, filming locations...

I Spit On Your Grave (1978)

NY writer Jennifer Hills heads to the country for some r&r.  What she didn't realize was one of those r's was rape.  Jennifer suffers repeated attacks from four lowlifes who leave her for dead. After a miraculous recovery, she plots revenge and her attackers meet their brutal and deserving deaths.

I Spit on Your Grave caused quite some controversy upon its release due to the extreme violence and was banned in many countries.  Some critics were so mad they could spit ;-)  Whether you're team complete garbage or team female defiance, the film is considered a cult classic.  Kent, CT would see another violent movie film in their area three years later with Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981).

Copycat (1995)

Tony Bennett may have left his heart in San Francisco but someone's leaving dead bodies all over the Bay Area.  SFPD are baffled and call upon the talents of renowned clinical psychologist Helen Hudson.  Agoraphobic from an attack by the deranged Darryl Lee Cullum, Helen manages to close in on the killer in between popping pills, guzzling booze and reciting presidents in the confines of her pimped out pad.  She realizes the murderer doesn't have an original bone in his body and is copycatting notorious serial killers of yore.  A happy ending for all as Peter Kurten/Foley meets his demise, Helen cures her agoraphobia and audiences receive a gentle reminder not to park next to vans.

It didn't take much effort to drag me to a psychological thriller in the 1990s. Especially one starring Sigourney Weaver.  Copycat delivered on all accounts from it's beautiful scenery, suspenseful moments and perhaps the only time Harry Connick Jr. managed not to bore me into unconsciousness. Holly Hunter is also phenomenal as MJ Monahan, even if she did like cheese on her burgers.

Copycat was filmed in San Mateo and San Francisco, CA
