Debbie Gibson - Only In My Dreams (1987)

There is no argument that Madonna was The Queen of Pop during the 1980s.  Alisha and Regina were among the princesses attempting to de-thrown her, the latter recording a song she had written for Madonna but was rejected.  While they saw mild success, neither came close to Long Island singer Debbie Gibson.  Her debut album, Out Of The Blue, spawned four top 5 singles and sold over three million copies.

Her lead single, Only In My Dreams, equipped with requisite sax solo, reached number four and went gold.  For the video, it seems Debbie's dream guy has taken interest as they frolic on the beach.  She realizes it happened, wait for it....only in her dream,  leaving the viewer to think she is alone now ;-)

The Secret Of My Success (1987)

Brantley Foster arrives in New York City, fresh off the bus from Kansas and with dreams of making it big in business.  After discovering the Pemrose Corporation is making really bad decisions, he occupies a vacant office, adopts a fake name and carries out his mailroom responsibilities while making boardroom decisions.  Hilarity ensues as Brantley also juggles two women, one that he's related to through marriage.  Things look bleak when Brantley is exposed but in the end he succeeds both professionally and personally.

I'm a sucker for late 80s New York corporate jungle films like Baby Boom (1987)Wall Street (1987) and Working Girl (1988).  The Secret of My Success earns its place among them.  While it may be a little uneven in tone, Brantley Foster is likeable enough to route for.  It may not have done as well as that other movie Michael J. Fox made in the 1980s, but The Secret of My Success did see success at the box office, grossing over 67 million dollars.  The film ranked above other blockbusters from that year such as Dirty Dancing (1987) and RoboCop (1987).  It also featured a soundtrack with 80s staples Pat Benatar and Bananarama.
