Copycat (1995)

Tony Bennett may have left his heart in San Francisco but someone's leaving dead bodies all over the Bay Area.  SFPD are baffled and call upon the talents of renowned clinical psychologist Helen Hudson.  Agoraphobic from an attack by the deranged Darryl Lee Cullum, Helen manages to close in on the killer in between popping pills, guzzling booze and reciting presidents in the confines of her pimped out pad.  She realizes the murderer doesn't have an original bone in his body and is copycatting notorious serial killers of yore.  A happy ending for all as Peter Kurten/Foley meets his demise, Helen cures her agoraphobia and audiences receive a gentle reminder not to park next to vans.

It didn't take much effort to drag me to a psychological thriller in the 1990s. Especially one starring Sigourney Weaver.  Copycat delivered on all accounts from it's beautiful scenery, suspenseful moments and perhaps the only time Harry Connick Jr. managed not to bore me into unconsciousness. Holly Hunter is also phenomenal as MJ Monahan, even if she did like cheese on her burgers.

  1. I'd like to see more images of the back side of the College of San Mateo library. Do you have more, along with the dates?

  2. Was the final scene filmed at USC? It looked like USC residences in the background from the rooftop.

    1. The final rooftop scene was filmed on top of the VKC Library on the USC campus! Source: USC alum here who studied frequently at the VKC library.

  3. Gas station is on 3rd Street near South Park between Bryant and Brannan. Changed a bit since then but remember when I saw this movie in the 90s before Giants Pac Bell Park was built, I recognized it.
