It's been 40 years since Michael Myers wreaked havoc on the small midwestern town of Haddonfield and Laurie Strode is still a basket case. She's gone into hiding, changed her name to Sarah Connor and is now the headmistress of a posh compound in Northern Illinois, where she does things to mannequins that would give Andrew McCarthy a coronary. She's estranged from her daughter Karen but tight with her grand
Halloween (1978) is my favorite movie of all time so I was filled with anticipation when not only was a new installment announced, but Jamie Lee Curtis would be reprising her iconic role! Not having been a fan of Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007) or Halloween II (2009), I had not been this excited since I saw the trailer for Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later (1998). I was able to see the movie one week before it was released in theaters as a VIP ticket holder at the Halloween: 40 Years of Terror Convention (2018). Watching the film with dedicated fans of the franchise all viewing it for the first time, was the ultimate Halloween treat.
I enjoyed the movie overall - the first decent mask since Halloween II (1981), an incredible score by mastermind John Carpenter, nods to the ignored sequels. But there were some razorblades in the apples with a few miscasts, a lack of tension and the Dr. Sartain twist. The movie was a box office smash, earning over 150 million dollars. Two sequels - Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends (hopefully working titles) were recently announced and will be released in 2020 and 2021.

Address: 2950 Carner Avenue, North Charleston, SC Military Magnet Academy
SAY SOMETHING!
Location: Laurie Strode's Gated Entrance
Address: Collins Road, Ladson, SC
Collins Road was blocked off so I couldn't drive down there. I wasn't sure how far down it was on foot so I didn't venture, but you get the idea...
Location: Laurie Strode's House
Address: just south of 8100 Palmetto Commerce Parkway, Ladson, SC
I wasn't sure if I would get to see this house and I certainly didn't think I'd get to see the inside. But the door was open so when in Ladson. I didn't have any interior screenshots with me, so I just went from memory...
The board was bolted to the floor. If only I had brought my IKEA tool kit...
Location: Walking to School
Address: Alamo Street & O'Hear Avenue, Charleston, SC
Allyson, Vicky and Dave head down Alamo Street before turning onto O'Hear...
Location: Haddonfield High School
Address: 5000 Lackawanna Boulevard, North Charleston, SC
An exterior scene that took place at the high school ended up on the cutting room floor...
The hospital and classroom scenes were also shot here, but the rooms unfortunately were locked during my visit. It appears the hospital room was on the other side of this door...
The football field was located at 1087 East Montague Avenue but has been torn down since filming...

Location: Office Hawkins' Convenience Store
Address: 4498 Durant Avenue, North Charleston, SC Sunfly Market
Location: Alison's Jogging Route
Address: Starting at 1415 Iriquois Street, Charleston, SC
A deleted scene, which would've occurred Halloween morning, finds Allyson spotting a dead dog hanging from a tree while she jogs. In reality, her route is more convoluted than Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)...
She starts out near 1415 Iriquois Street...
Then she jogs in the opposite direction near 1403 Iriquois Street...
Then she ends up in an entirely different neighborhood on Fenwick Drive...
Allyson then passes a construction site at 20 Fenwick Drive...
Which is now this modern dwelling...
She then stops near 1 Belvue Road...
Location: The Cemetery
Address: 70 Cunningham Avenue, Charleston, SC Magnolia Cemetery
This place is a bitch to find. I thought I would die of old age before locating it. At least I would've been in the right place. Thanks to Robert Patterson at Set-Jetter.com for being an OnStar rep as I was about to give up. This area is in the Greenhill section across the swap. The Sinclair tombstone was a nice touch...
Looks like this tree next to Judith's tombstone was struck by lightning. I guess Mother Nature got her horror franchises mixed up...

The bathroom scene was filmed on a soundstage.
Location: Karen Strode's House
Address: 21 Stocker Drive, Charleston, SC

While I didn't love Michael Myers turning into Jason Voorhees, I did enjoy the vibrant Halloween night trick-or-treating street, something that is rarely seen in the franchise...

Location: Julian's House
Address: 40 Fenwick Drive, North Charleston, SC
Officer Hawkins pulls up across the street in front of 41 Fenwick Drive...

Address: 478 Huger Street, Charleston, SC
Location: Allyson Runs for Help
Address: starting at 490 Huger Street, Charleston, SC
Location: Michael Gets Run Over
Address: Lancaster & Monitor Streets, Charleston, SC
Not as spectacular as Bennett Tramer getting turned into street pizza, but every sequel released in a year ending in 8 had Michael get hit with a vehicle, so why break tradition...
The WTF groan heard throughout the theater...

Is Laurie's house a property strictly used for filming? So awesome you got inside! I asked over on OHMB but not sure what's up with that site.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't appear to be used strictly for filming. Yeah, the board has been down for over a month. I hope it returns!
DeleteDid you see the balcony where laurie feel off from?
ReplyDeleteI did not see a balcony. I believe that was a set.
DeleteWas there another house on the property used for Laurie's house? Reason being, I'm currently watching season 2 of Vice Principals which was filmed in Charleston. Danny McBride's house in this season looks like it may have been the same property, just a more wooded section. The gated entrance looks the same. I guess it could have been built for the show and torn down after.
ReplyDeleteI believe there was one on the other side of the property but I did not investigate.
DeleteI'm going to make a horror movie should i use some of these loctions?
