Thanksgiving came early in 1989 with this turkey. Halloween 5 was released just a year after
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988) and boy does it show. A bad
script, a horrible mask, obviously shot in late spring/early summer and perhaps the most annoying character to ever grace
the big screen (lookin’ at you, Tina). But I was already in Utah visiting the locations from Halloween 4, so
when in Salt Lake….
Halloween 5 was filmed in Salt Lake City, Ogden and Orem, UT
Big thanks to Mr. H from the halloweenmovies.com message board for finding many of these locations over the past few months.

I always wondered why they tried to pass that circus looking house off as the Myers house? There is a guy here in NC that built a full size replica as his own house, pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteThey definitely phoned it in on this sequel.
DeleteThe house looks different. Not sure I see the point, though. People always point this out as if they are displaying some manner of keen insight. The same people rarely comment on how, between parts 1 and 2-which constituted a span of, what, 90 seconds?-Michael Myers shrank 5 inches in height, and Loomis changed into a better looking trench coat, and Laurie Strode altered her hair style....You could, if you so chose, come up with a possible explanation or two for the house being different. Not so for the main character inexplicably shrinking. Creative teams take the basic concept, and the basic elements, and do what they can with them. You like the results, or you don't. If the continuity with the house matters so much to you, may I recommend the Busta Rhymes classic 'Resurrection'. That one featured a house that closely resembled the 1978 version....and the results speak for themselves.
ReplyDeleteThere is a major difference between those this and that. His height was covered up with clever camera angles. You could not cover the house up with different angles. Ive seen Halloween II and there is no difference whatsoever with Loomis trench coat. Lauries hair style is the same except the wig bounces up on occasions. There is a major difference between those two aspects of mistakes. Those mistakes in Halloween II were not mistakes but the one in part 5 is just sloppy film making.
DeleteAnyone have an idea on the police station from hallowHal 5?
ReplyDeleteAccording to Mr. H on the Official Halloween Message Board, it was originally located at 437 Wasatch Drive, Layton, UT but was demolished not long after the movie's release.
DeleteBrian, we should be friends! Haha I want to go see places too.
DeleteNever too late to start making a to-do list :-)
