Scream (1996)

The very quiet and very clean town of Woodsboro, CA is no stranger to tragedy.  Maureen Prescott, wife, mother and failed actress, was raped and murdered a year ago.  Now two teenagers have been brutally disposed of and the town is upheaval.  No one feels it more than Maureen's daughter Sydney, who survives an attack from Ghostface.  But that doesn't stop the bodies from dropping, and what better place for that to happen than during a party at a secluded farm house, where Sydney discovers the killer is none other than her boyfriend Johnny Depp Billy Loomis and his cohort Stu Macher.  Their very elaborate plan is foiled thanks to a little help from meteorologist Gale Weathers, who will be there FOR you ;-) when you need it the most.

The horror genre was bleeding out before Scream came along.  The franchises were fatigued and if a film wasn’t going straight to video, its box office was pretty dismal.   Kevin Williamson’s slasher/mystery breathed new life with its self-aware characters spewing hip dialogue while referencing the classics.  Like Halloween (1978), which was a major influence for the film, Scream was not expected to become the phenomenon it turned out to be, thanks to clever counterprogramming and word of mouth.  It slayed the box office during sleigh season and went on to gross over 100 million dollars so of course audience would be screaming again soon.
And Drew Barrymore’s wig is more horrorfying than Jamie Lee Curtis’ Halloween II (1981) wig.

Back in 2015, all I had was a measly far away shot of Stu's House taken from the road.  But thanks to the Scream Comes Home (2018) event, fans were given property access to explore the outside and inside of this beautiful abode.  The house was built in the early 90s by a couple who both passed away before it was completed.  The Scream production crew were the first to utilize it...

The original button is still there...

In the movie, it appears the tv/family room is off to the left when you enter the front door, but the room that was actually used is in the back of the house past the kitchen...

This is the room that is actually to the left of the front door...

  1. Casey Becker's house is at 7420 Sonoma Mountain Road, Glen Ellen, CA

It's not close to the road but there are photos as the house sold this year.

  3. They had wanted to shoot this at a real high school in Santa Rosa but were denied, hence the "No Thanks Whatsoever to the Sonoma County School District" note in the end credits.

  4. Glad I stumbled upon your blog. This is fantastic. I think I speak for most when I say the specific angle shots you take for relativity purposes are very much appreciated. Well done man. Is this just a hobby of yours?

  5. Hi Brian, awesome blog my friend. I am coming over from the UK next year and would love to tick a few of these off my list. My main two would be Stu and Casey's houses. How accessible are they? I've seen you couldnt get that close to syd's house and I wondered if the other two could also be quite far behind a closed gate.

    1. Thank you! Unfortunately Stu and Casey's houses are not usually accessible. The reason I got into Stu's house was because I attended the Scream Comes Home event last fall. The shots of Casey's house are from when it was on the market (I did not go to an open house or anything). I had originally gone to the wrong house when I first visited so I don't know if you can see it at all from the main road. You can see the back of Stu's house (not seen in the movie) in the distance from the main road.

    1. No one wishes that more than me. It was advertised as a stop on the Scream Comes Home tour but that didn't end up happening.

    1. Thank you! It was open to everyone. Fans were able to tour and some were lucky enough to stay overnight at Stu's house in October 2018. I wrote a post about it, which you can read here: https://rtrlocations.blogspot.com/2018/10/scream-comes-home-2018.html There was another event planned for this year, which was postponed due to the wildfires.
