Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990-2000)

The wholesome Walsh Family leaves snowy Minneapolis to plant roots in sunny Los Angeles.  They settle in its ritziest zip code where they discover rich people have problems too.  But instead of deciding what to make for the bake sale and which after school clubs to join, they find themselves dealing with more serious issues like alcohol, drugs and pronouncing Ahhhhhhndrea's name correctly.

Twins Brandon and Brenda quickly make friends at West Beverly High and refuel at The Peach Pit in between the drama, which escalated as the gang repeated their junior year in the second season.  A gun accident, a desperate Valentine and a hold up at The Peach Pit sure had Jim and Cindy Walsh searching for parental guidance speeches.  Perhaps the biggest drama occurred when Kelly hooked up with Dylan while Brenda was in Paris for the summer, creating a major rift during senior year before everyone (what are the odds?) headed off to California University.

West Beverly High had some of the oldest looking teenagers I have ever seen.  It debuted under the radar in a season full of teen shows.  The producers made a smart move airing new episodes during the summer and 90210 went on to become a huge hit since every other station was preoccupied with The Gulf War.  The show dealt with every teen issue possible before turning into a sudser.  There are so many classic episodes like Kelly's drunk mom, the spring dance, batshit crazy Emily, Ahhhhndrea hits menopause.  Well, maybe not the last one.  While the show ran ten years, I checked out after Brenda said au revoir.

Be sure to check out Geoff's 90210 locations blog for more locations.

Address: 20356 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA

Although not actually seen in the episode, when Brandon asks Ahhhhhndrea for a restaurant recommendation, she suggests "Moonshadows.  In Malibu.  Very romantic."

Sexually frustrated that its not her he's taking, Ahhhhndrea then inaccurately rips a newspaper article in half.

Location: Brenda's Sorority House
Address: 310 S Van Ness Avenue, Los Angeles, CA   St. Brendan's Church

Jason may have been older but he sure wasn't wiser, believing Brenda's entire sorority house transferred to Beverly Hills from Minnesota...

Location: Ahhhhhndrea Zuckerman's House
Address: 540 N Gramercy Place, Los Angeles, CA

Geographically undesirable Ahhhhhhhndrea Zuckerman duped West Beverly High by using her grandmother's Beverly Hills address even though she resided in the porn capital of the world.  In reality, her house was south of Hollywood..

Season 1, Episode 2: "The Green Room"

Location: The Walsh Minnesota House
Address: 1640 Braeburn Road, Altadena, CA

This house was seen only once in the opening credits of episode 2, where a Minnesota mailman delivers the goods only to find it needs to be forwarded to Beverly Hills, CA 90210.  I thought it was a nice addition but maybe it was cut for time.  Thanks to Lindsay at Iamnotastalker.com for finding this location.

Season 1, Episode 4: "The First Time"

Location: Contact Club
Address: 333 Boylston Street, Los Angeles, CA

Brandon's Minneapolis girlfriend, Cheryl, wants to see some stars while she's in town.  It just so happens Dylan knows a private club where she may bump into some.  She later puts the moves on the Beverly Hills bad boy, causing a rift between the guys.  Soho's Hippi Chick was used during this scene, one of the first cassingles I ever bought.  90210 used great music in the first few seasons.  Unfortunately they had to be replaced with God awful muzak on the DVD releases...

Third time's a charm - this was also The Blue Iguana from the pilot and This Town restaurant from Episode 3 Every Dream Has It's Price (Tag).

Season 1, Episode 5: "One on One"

Location: Brenda's Gas Station

Straight-laced Brandon drove down a dark road in this episode as he takes a liking to Steve's mango margaritas.  When the liquor and munchies run out, he takes it upon himself to get behind wheel drunk and plows into a truck...

John Carpenter fans will also recognize this as the precinct from Assault on Precinct 13 (1976)

Season 1, Episode 12: "Slumber Party"

Location: Floodlights Nightclub
Address: 14980 Calvert Street, Van Nuys, CA

Underage Brandon and Steve are up for a night on the town.  After the bouncer rejects Steve's money, the guys pick up Sam from Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter (1984) and Julie from Growing Pains (1985-1992) This is right across from the 90210 production studios...

Season 1, Episode 16: "Fame Is Where You Find It"

Location: West Beverly High
Address: 13645 Riverside Drive, Sherman Oaks, CA   Notre Dame High School

The usual high school was not used in this episode.  I'm guessing because there were so few school scenes, they didn't feel like hiking down to Torrance for them and used this school, which is very close to the park that was seen in the episode.

It was used once again in the "Necessity Is A Mother" in Season 2.

Location: The Park
Address: 14201 Huston Street, Sherman Oaks, CA

This was also the park where Brandon visits Carla during Episode 14 "East Side Story"

Location: Brenda & Rick's Paris Garden

Why Shannen Doherty didn't win an Emmy for her faux French accent still haunts me to this day.  That and having to act off of Dean Cain, aka Reek.

  8. Wow great work at photographing these sites. I was curious if you had any references to go by when scouting these spots besides the shots from 90210. For example, were you able to get in touch with any location scouts/talent/ or staff that worked on these shows or get ahold of any production notes? Some of these spots you point out are so incredibly specific and obscure like the neighborhood where Andrea gets hit by the vehicle, it would be hard to believe that you just randomly drove around Los Angeles and accidentally came across the same spot. Other spots like that round building that was used as a hospital would seem a lot easier to identify.

    1. Thanks McSkillz! Several of the 90210 locations I've visited so far were already found. I've gone back and watched the first 3 seasons since then and located others paying attention to street signs, bars, restaurants, landmarks (something I do for each film/tv show/video). For 90210, I have not reached out to location/crew members, but I have for other films/tv shows.

  9. I mapped out some of the most iconic locations in the link below (There’s some overlap with the locations listed above). It's an aggressive plan for 1 day but it's so worth it! Assuming there's not a football game or concert at the Rose Bowl, you can start at "Casa Walsh" in Altadena and end at the "Beverly Hills Beach Club" in Santa Monica. If you're lucky, you may even catch one of the beautiful sunsets So Cal is known for at the last stop at the beach in Santa Monica!
