The Bodyguard (1992)

One of the guiltiest pleasure movies, a big block of Velveeta.  And talk about development hell.  The Bodyguard was originally supposed to star Diana Ross and Steve McQueen back in the mid 70s.  But I can't think of anyone else in this movie except Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.  Whitney hits it out of the park when it came to the soundtrack, the best selling soundtracks of all time.  In between her award winning songs in the film, there are several unintentionally funny moments, which contributed to the 7 Razzie nominations.

The Bodyguard was filmed in Long Beach, Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, CA and Miami, FL

Location: Frank Farmer's House
Address: 3526 Beethoven Street, Los Angeles, CA

8/9/18 - Thanks to Ana A. from Toronto and her love of architecture, the house belonging to bodyguard extraordinaire (except maybe to Ronald Reagan) Frank Farmer has finally been located!  A few houses east of Beethoven initially looked like contenders, however, there wasn't a traffic light that you catch a glimpse of when Frank comes home on those streets.  The tract house was previously owned by Dijon Productions and, with the exception of a new color, looks pretty much the same.  Thanks again, Ana!

You catch a quick glimpse of the electrical covering as Frank pics up his luggage...

Thanks to Lindsay at Iamnotastalker.com for finding this location.

Location: Rachel Marron's Mansion Exterior
Address: 1011 N Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills, CA

Since it's a gated property, this was as far as I got. This property was also used in The Godfather (1972).

This location was also used in Ghostbusters 2 (1989) as Gracie Mansion.

Location: The Fontainebleau Hotel
Address: 4441 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL

Since I was not a guest at the Fontainebleau Hotel, I couldn't get access to the pool so I did my best from the balcony...

The Fontainebleau Hotel was also seen in Scarface (1983) and Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach (1988).

Location: The Academy Awards Exterior
Address: 607 S Park View Street, Los Angeles, CA    Park Plaza Hotel

This was also used as Julian's club in Less Than Zero (1987) and Vincent Ludwig's office in The Naked Gun (1988)

The Academy Award interiors were shot at The Pantages Theater in Hollywood.

Location: Rotary Club Dinner

This room was also used in True Lies (1994) when Harry and Helen tango at the end.

    1. Thanks, Stephen. Unfortunately have not had any luck with Frank's house. There's not much to go off of since it's so dark.

  2. Hi, Thanks for getting back to me. I will be in L.A early January and will be visiting lots of the locations you have found. I don't suppose you know which seat that Frank and Rachel sat in while filming at Joe Jost's by any chance? Again many thanks for your efforts.

    thanks
    Steve

    1. Hi Steve, That's great you're going to visit the locations. I'm not sure of the exact booth but if I recall, there weren't that many. Maybe you can try and sit in all of them lol. Couldn't hurt to ask the people that work there, which I should've done. I'm sure they get tons of visitors and may happen to know from employees of yesteryear.

  4. Hi,

I've never been to L.A. but I've read extensively about it over the years. I'm an architecture buff. I think I might've found Frank's house. It's in Mar Vista, either on Meier or Moore Street between Palms Boulevard and Marco Place, east of Beethoven Street. These tract houses were designed by the architect Gregory Ain in the 1940s. Hope I'm right. Ana.

    1. Hi Ana, thanks for writing! I think you might be onto something. Houses on those blocks definitely look similar. I just popped in the DVD. You catch a quick glimpse of a traffic light as Frank walks up to the door. At those intersections you mentioned there aren't any however. Perhaps it's a bit further north or south or on more a main road that would have a traffic light at the intersection.

  5. Hi Brian,

Forgot to write yesterday that these tract houses are also located on the east side of Beethoven between Palms and Marco. Looking at the map on Google Maps now. Maybe it's the blue one at the intersection of Beethoven and Marco? Thanks for the quick reply. Ana.

  6. Hi, I've been waiting to see if anyone could come up with any ideas on this. I've been looking at the houses on google maps myself. In the movie Frank has a basement and after their date they end up down in the basement as i'm sure you know but just before the scene cuts to the basement there is a scene outside where you will notice the light from the basement windows come on. I'm looking at the houses to see if there are any noticeable windows that low to the ground. No luck yet though.

    Thanks for sharing though.

    2. Hi Brian,

Thank you very much. Can I ask what makes you think that this is the correct house? I will be back in LA in January so will definitely have a closer look bearing in mind that it is a residence.

      Many thanks Brian

    3. Hi Stevie, as you see in the comparison shots, the design matches, especially the windows on the left, the tree in front of the house looks the same, as does the electrical covering at the curb and stone path. And it appears to be about the same distance to the traffic light. I'll be in LA in October and hopefully will stop by.

    4. It would be good if someone who worked on the movie reads this post and can then confirm it. Ana.

  7. Hi Brian. My apologies, I was being put in the wrong place by google maps for some reason. I see from the pictures what you mean. I had lost hope but this really is great and I'm thankful to both you and Ana.
Well done Ana that really is a keen eye.

    Thanks again both
