Cyndi Lauper - The Goonies 'R' Good Enough (1985)

Quirky 80s pop star Cyndi Lauper was riding high after her debut album She's So Unusual spawned four top 10 singles and earned her the 1984 Best New Artist Grammy.  She caught the ear of unstoppable 80s director/producer Steven Spielberg, who put her in charge of The Goonies soundtrack.  Lauper co-penned the song Good Enough to be included but was forced to add The Goonies R to the title for marketing purposes, much to her dismay.  Cyndi was not a fan of the song and left if out of her setlist and off her greatest hits, even though it just reached the top 10.

In the epic video, Cyndi's parents are being evicted from their gas station.  While packing up, she finds a hole in the wall and climbs in to investigate.  She finds a treasure map and runs into The Goonies...and pirates and a witch!  The Goonies are captured and after a long chase scene, Cyndi finds herself trapped on a bridge between the pirates and witch, leaving viewers with a cliffhanger.  In part 2, Cyndi joins the captured Goonies on the pirate ship.  After finding treasure there, they escape and Cyndi returns to the gas station to pay off the creditors.  The video featured several WWE members including Captain Lou Albano, Roddy Piper and The Shiek.  The Bangles also made a cameo pre-fame, and had a song on the soundtrack.

In the fall of 2023, The Warner Ranch tore down all their facades to make room for soundstages, leaving many filming location enthusiasts destitute.  I attempted several times to get on the lot but was always met with a resounding no.  The gas station, seen in several films and shows including Gremlins (1984), was one of the many iconic spots to be leveled.  Just before they were, I was able to snag a photo through the fencing
