Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time (1984)

Cyndi Lauper followed up her smash dance hit Girls Just Want To Have Fun (1983) with this bittersweet ballad which still can bring a tear to my eye.  Time After Time became her first number one hit and video was in heavy rotation on MTV.   It features her then-boyfriend and mother and shows Cyndi leaving her small town and loved ones behind as she heads out for bigger and better things.

Time After Time was filmed in Roxbury, Wharton and Morristown, NJ

Location: The Diner
Address: US-46 & US-10 Intersection, Roxbury, NJ   Tom's Diner

Tom's Diner is still there!  Although it has been deserted ;-) for quite some time.

Location: Cyndi Hides From Her Boyfriend
Address: 10 Main Street, Wharton, NJ

Windows are always a great hiding place.  I originally had this location as 1 Main Street, which is a similar looking storefront, but it turns out it was a little further up the street.  Much thanks to Harold Winard for the correction...

Location: En Route to the Train Station
Address: Main Street & West Central Avenue, Wharton, NJ

Cyndi and her boyfriend head down South Main Street and turn onto West Central Avenue.

Location: Cyndi's Childhood Home

  1. Does anyone know why chose Wharton, Ledgewood and Morristown, what is the connection?

    1. I think she had ties there from early in her career and performed on some local variety show that was filmed in New Jersey.

  3. Station scenes were filmed in Morristown NJ....but The scene where she boards the train was shot in Little Ferry NJ on the New York Susquehanna & Western Rail Yards....the conductor in the video is a good friend of mine who worked for the NYS&W at the time and had a conductors uniform to use for the video!

    1. What train cars were used? What was the name on the cars? I can see the letters "tsego" at the top of the train but can't read the whole thing. When you say it was filmed in the rail yards, do you literally mean a train on the tracks not by a station?

  4. Tom's Diner was torn down a few weeks back... but I was there when they filmed it because Lou Albano was there and me and a bunch of football players from Roxbury High who were into professional wrestling were there to pepper Albano with profanity after obscenity as we sipped our schlitz beer and boones farm LOL

    1. Oh man, that's sad to hear it was torn down, though I'm not surprised considering the condition it was in. That's awesome you were there when they filmed the video!
