Cape Fear (1991)

Psychopath Max Cady is on a mission.  And who wouldn't be after 14 years in prison?  He hunts down his former lawyer, Sam Bowden, after finding out he buried evidence that could've cleared him of his rape and battery charges.  Max makes life hell for Sam and his family as he stalks and harasses them continually.  After Max murders a private investigator and maid in the Bowden house, the family flee to their houseboat on Cape Fear.  Max climbs aboard and several brawls ensue on the stormy waters until he meets his demise shackled to the boat as it goes under.

Martin Scorsese tackles a remake of the 1962 film, which was adapted from the novel The Executioners.  Robert Dinero and Juliette Lewis rightfully earn their Academy Award nominations.  The film was a commercial success and received mostly positive reviews from critics.  The original was set and filmed in Georgia and while the remake was also set in Georgia, it was actually filmed in Florida, including Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Hollywood and Davie.

The Bowden House was torn down in 2003 and replaced with The Oaks at Hidden Harbour condominiums, however you can still see the spot where Max and Leigh interact.  Thanks to Paul H of Halloween Filming Locations for researching this location...

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts - I Love Rock 'n' Roll (1982)

After her stint with The Runaways, Philadelphia rocker Joan Jett pursued a solo career and recorded a few songs, including a cover of The Arrows' I Love Rock 'n' Roll.  After forming The Blackhearts, the song was revisited and became their debut single.  I Love Rock 'n' Roll spent seven weeks at #1 and has featured on several 80s compilation CDs ever since.  The song set the bar high and subsequent singles failed to match the success of their declaration of music.

The video was filmed at a club called Privates on Manhattan's Upper East Side, which today is a  ubiquitous Starbucks.  It mostly features the band performing the song with a few shots of Joan's imminent conquest for the night.  The only telltale sign that remains is the shot at the end when Joan looks back inside.  The buildings across the street are still recognizable, even with my longstanding curse of visiting NYC locations covered in scaffolding.

I Love Rock 'n' Roll was filmed in New York, NY

The Affair (2014-2019)

A long, hot summer vacation in The Hamptons with his family turns into a long, hot affair after Noah Solloway meets waitress Alison Lockhart.  Set against the tranquility of eastern Long Island's ritzy community, The Affair brings chaos to two families with major consequences.  The series had a unique component where the story is told by the point of view of both Noah and Alison, each with varying perspectives.  Truth be told, I have actually only watched the first season of the critically-acclaimed and award-winning Showtime series.  But I made sure I stopped by a few of the filming locations on a recent trip to Montauk, referred to by locals as The End.

The Affair was filmed in Brooklyn, Amangassett, East Hampton and Montauk, NY
