It's been five years since Freddy Krueger was defeated by Nancy Thompson. A new family has moved into her home and their teenage son Jesse begins having nightmares. Freddy begins emerging from his body to kill, taking out Jesse's coach and friend before wreaking havoc at his girlfriend Lisa's pool party. A showdown takes place at the factory where Freddy worked and took his victims, ending with Freddy turning to ash.
Director Wes Craven declined the opportunity to helm the sequel to A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984), having issues with the screenplay. He felt Freddy Krueger roaming around in the real world made him less frightening, which was a valid concern. Even though it lacked scares and lost much of the atmosphere of its predecessor, Freddy's Revenge performed well at the box office, raking in just a bit more than the original. The film seems to have gained more appreciation over time and is noted for its homoerotic themes.
