Cuban refugee Tony Montana was destined for better things than just being a dishwasher after arriving in Miami. He soon begins working for drug lord Frank Lopez. Tony takes a shine to Frank's wife, Elvira, whom he eventually marries after Frank is disposed of and Tony begins his ascent as Miami's new kingpin, all while keep tabs on his younger sister, Gina. After infuriating fellow drug lord Alejandro Sosa, a massive shootout takes place at Tony's estate, where he experiences a water landing.
Scarface is hailed by many to be one of the best crime movies of all time. While Al Pacino certainly gives a great performance, for me, it's a film to watch after several years have gone by, partly due to the 170 minute running time. Critics were put off by the violence, but being a horror movie fan, I didn't mind the most disturbing part of the film that would've made that other face in Texas proud. Scarface is set in Miami; however, much of it was filmed in Los Angeles due to The Miami Tourist Board's concerns the portrayal of drugs and crime in their city would scare off visitors. Oh, and in case you weren't counting, fuck is said 226 times during the movie, practically rivalling how many times Carol Ann was said in Poltergeist III.
