A Perfect Murder (1998)

Wall Street mogul Gordon Gekko Steven Taylor discovers his UN Translator wife Emily Taylor is having an affair with Brooklyn artist/ex-convict David Shaw.  When Steven's investments go south, he concocts a plan for David to murder his wife for her many millions.  Things don't go exactly as planned when Emily kills her attacker, who ends up being someone other than David.  David blackmails Steven with a recording his plot but Steven murders him.  Emily discovers her husband was behind her attack and murders him.

Remaking Hitchcock is a psychotic idea.  And while this Dial M For Murder redo certainly isn't... perfect, it's not horrible either.  Michael Douglas does research for his upcoming marriage to Catherine Zeta-Jones by being paired up with yet another dame decades younger than him.  Gwyneth Paltrow turns in a decent performance but David Suchet is the most memorable with his minor role.  The title A Perfect Murder was how the original movie was translated in some countries.
