Spider-Man (2002)

When geeky Peter Parker gets bit by a spider on a class trip, he's gifted with superpowers like the arachnid that nibbled on him.  He soon uses them to battle city crime and the notorious Green Goblin as Spider-Man while trying to win the heart of Mary Jane Watson.

A slew of directors and actors were considered before it was narrowed down to Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire.  After 9/11, the Twin Towers were erased from sequences and the teaser poster was recalled as was the teaser trailer.  Unsurprisingly, Spider-Man made a bundle at the box office the following spring and two more sequels followed with Raimi and Maguire.

Spider-Man was filmed in Queens, Forest Hills, Flushing, Long Island City, Valhalla, New York, NY & Burbank and Los Angeles, CA

Location: The Class Trip
Address: 116th Street & Broadway, New York, NY  Columbia University

I originally visited Columbia back in '16 for Ghostbusters (1984) so these don't exactly match up but you get the idea...

Of course the building I needed to get a shot of had scaffolding around it, just 95% of the other buildings in the NYC area I need to visit, so here's a little cheat from the next building over...

Location: Moondance Diner
Address: 80 6th Avenue, New York, NY

After 70 years, The Moondance Diner closed its doors due to rising rents and was transported to Wyoming after being donated to the American Diner Museum, where it eventually closed in 2012.  A high-rise building now stands in its place...

The Times Square sequence was actually shot on a soundstage, which is pretty obvious.  But a few quick establishing shots are seen...
