The Girl On The Train (2016)

Like Gone Girl (2014), I had not read the book for The Girl On The Train so I was not emotionally invested when I entered the theater.  I did, however, read reviews and message board postings and it seems many are not pleased with the adaptation.  I found the film enjoyable, especially after the first hour when the conductor released the breaks.  I've haven't done many modern day films (sadly because so few held my interest) but I think it's safe to say this will be the quickest turnaround should I do more as this movie was filmed very close to home.

The Girl On The Train was filmed in Irvington, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-On-Hudson, North White Plains, White Plains, Brooklyn and New York, NY

Location: Ardsley-On-Hudson Train Station
Address: Ardsley Avenue W, Irvington, NY

The film takes place in the town of Ardsley-On-Hudson, which actually does not exist and is only the name of a train stop on the Hudson Line of The Metro North Railroad.  The actual town of Ardsley is a few miles east of the river, and ironically, was not used in the film.

Location: Tom & Anna's House
Address: 14 Macy Avenue, White Plains, NY

In the film, the backyards of the houses border the train tracks along the Hudson River, but in reality, they are about 10 miles east in White Plains overlooking a large field.  The wonders of CGI.

The view from the backyard....

Location: Scott & Megan's House
Address: 18 Macy Avenue, White Plains, NY

As you can see, the upstairs balcony responsible for Rachel's involvement was either built by production or renovated to throw location hunters like me off the track ;-)

Location: Rachel & Cathy's Apartment Building
Address: 81 Southside Avenue, Hastings-On-Hudson, NY

It was hard to get a wide shot since this borders the train tracks.

Rachel runs after Detective Riley to tell her what she saw at the intersection of Southside Avenue and Washington Avenue, just down from the apartment.

Location: The Tunnel
Address: Station Road just west of Broadway, Irvington, NY

Rachel's attack happens here...

Her assailant escapes down this tunnel right next to the main one.

Location: The Train Bridge
Address: Fisher Lane & North Broadway, North White Plains, NY

This location is scene during Rachel's flashback.

It is also seen in the trailer as Megan is jogging...

Location: Grand Central Station
Address: 89 E 42nd Street, New York, NY

Rachel knocks back a few at The Oyster Bar inside Grand Central.

Location: Dr. Abdic's House
Address: 44 Usonia Road, Pleasantville, NY

Location: Dr. Abdic's Office
Address: 1097 North Broadway, Yonkers, NY

Location: Rachel's Pool Bar
Address: 533 Warburton Avenue, Hastings on Hudson, NY

It is now a Japanese restaurant...

Location: Rachel & Creepy Guy's Bar
Address: 92 Main Street, Dobbs Ferry, NY

Location: Rachel & Tom Argue
Address: Park Avenue between 42nd & 41st Street, New York, NY

Grand Central can be seen in the background during their altercation after Martha's barbecue.

Location: Megan's Pilates Class
Address: 129 Main Street, Dobbs Ferry, NY  Pilates and More

Location: Ardsley-On-Hudson Police Station
Address: 12 S Astor Street, Irvington, NY

The Exterior is actually The Irvington Public Library...

The interior was filmed at The Irvington Town Hall located at 85 Main Street, Irvington, NY.  The actual police station is located here but it appears part of the town hall was actually used.

Location: Rachel In Central Park
Address: Gapstow Bridge, Central Park, NY

This famous location was also seen in Weekend At Bernie's (1989), Cruel Intentions (1999) and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York (1992)

Location: The Untermyer Fountain
Address: Enter at 106th Street, Central Park, NY

Locations Visited: November 2015, October 2016, February 2017

  1. Where were the scenes of the train along the marshes and by the house that overlooked the Hudson. Most of the views of the river from east of the tracks from Spuyten Duyvil to about Scarborough or Cold Spring are industrial, not beautiful houses. The last scene, that aerial shot of the train heading north wasn't anywhere near the other Irvington/Hastings-on-Hudson/Irvington/Ardsley/Dobbs Ferry scenes. I'm guessing that was north of Peekskill.

    1. I'm not sure about that. I'll need to see it again to try and figure it out.

  2. I'm pretty certain the scene showing Megan's grave is in Greenwood Cemetery, not Mt. Hope, given the fact that Greenwood has such close views of the harbor and the city skyline.

    1. I think you're right. The buildings are pretty close in the background from what I remember.

  3. Confirmed that the cemetery is indeed Greenwood cemetery and the view of Manhattan is taken from the perspective of the top of Battle Hill. The richest.com has an article 10 Of The World’s Most Beautiful Cemeteries which shows exact same view as that 01:44:42 of the film
