Glenn Frey - You Belong To The City (1985)

The heat is on again thanks to Glenn Frey's hot and moody You Belong To The City.  The song was written specifically for the hit NBC series Miami Vice (1984-1989) and featured in the second season premiere episode entitled "The Prodigal Son."  The Eagles frontman had appeared in the first season as a drug smuggler's transport guy as well as singing Smuggler's Blues, from the episode of the same name.

You Belong To The City hit #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was a significant contribution to the Miami Vice Soundtrack, which remained the top selling television soundtrack for over 20 years.  The 30 second sax intro gives way to pumping bass line as Frey croons and hollers about city nightlife.  With The Heat Is On from the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack also hitting #2 a year prior, Glenn Frey seemed poised to dethrone Kenny Loggins as the 80s soundtrack king.  But after turning down Shakedown from Beverly Hills Cop II, Frey went on to record his underrated Soul Searchin' album.

For the video, Glenn takes to the streets of gritty 80s Manhattan, crossing paths several times with a sexy blonde.  After a few drinks they stroll back to her apartment for... a night cap.  In the early morning light, Glenn departs before tossing a cigarette in the East River, reflecting on just another Saturday night in the city.
