Kate & Allie (1984-1989)

Two childhood friends move in together after their divorces to help raise each other's kids.  I'm not quite sure how Kate's travel agency income and Allie's alimony payments coughed up enough to live in Greenwich Village but I'm willing to suspend disbelief.   Two divorced women living together raised eyebrows, so they had to be seen going into separate bedrooms before bed on many occasions.  A parade of male love interests put any remaining doubts to rest.  The groundbreaking series had the unique aspect of being taped in New York and each episode's opening scene was shot on-location in The Big Apple.

Address: 235 W 65th Street at 8th Avenue, New York, NY

During the last season, Allie got married and moved uptown to this building. Since her husband was away a lot, Kate moved in too.  A textbook shark jump.  This pic was taken from 64th Street.

  2. I remember watching an early episode where they pretended to be lesbians in order to afford the rent, which was no more than about $750. Adjust for inflation and that's still only about $2,000, wayyyyyyy less than what one of those apartments would go for now.
