A year after Freddy Krueger's wrath at Westin Hills, Kristen Parker, Roland Kincaid and Joey Crusel are the remaining Elm Street Dream Warriors. Freddy offs them one by one but not before Kristen can pass her ability to pull people into her dreams to her friend Alice. Freddy soon targets Alice's friends, continuing his reign of terror on a new batch of Elm Street kids. Alice ultimately battles Freddy and wins thanks to "The Dream Master" nursery rhyme.
After the success of A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, another sequel was inevitable. Wes Craven initially pitched an idea that was passed on. Actress Patricia Arquette declined to reprise her role as Kristen and was replaced with Tuesday Knight, who sings the song over the opening credits. The film was a box office success, outgrossing its predecessors and remaining the top Nightmare film until Freddy vs. Jason. Critics weren't as brutal to the fourth installment of a horror franchise as usual, especially for one where most of the dialogue was redubbed in the studio. In just a little over nine months, another installment was born.
