Back To The Future Part III (1990)

Marty McFly travels back to 1885 to save Doc Brown from being shot by Biff Tannen's great-grandfather Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen.  After arriving in newly found Hill Valley, he gets into a scuffle with Mad Dog but is saved by Doc, who decides to leave 1885 after learning what's in store for him.  He deduces without fuel, the DeLorean can reach 88 mph with a steam locomotive helping it along.  Meanwhile Doc falls in love with schoolteacher Clara Clayton and Marty is challenged to a showdown with Mad Dog.  Doc's theory about the locomotive proves true as Marty returns to 1985 in the DeLorean and reunites with Jennifer.  He also avoids a drag race that Doc warned him about that would change his life.   Doc and Clara appear in the locomotive with their children and Doc encourages them to make their future a good one before heading off for another time.

Back To The Future Part III was filmed right after Part II was completed.  The Old West was chosen for the time period after Michael J. Fox expressed interest.  The change of scenery was welcome after spending so much time in past, modern and futuristic Hill Valley.  The film raked in just under 100 million at the box office and although it didn't quite match the previous efforts, reviews were mostly favorable.  Back To The Future Part III has resonated with fans over time and the trilogy is regarded as one of the best of all time.

Back To The Future Part II (1989)

Picking up where the first film left off, Doc Brown urges Marty McFly and his girlfriend Jennifer to travel with him to 2015 to help their future children as Marty Jr. will be arrested for robbery with Biff's grandson Griff.  After taking in a futuristic Hill Valley, Marty endures a hoverboard chase and Griff gets arrested.  Marty then purchases a sports almanac, which Biff takes possession of.  Jennifer is disappointed to see what the future holds after visiting her 2015 home.  Returning to 1985, Hill Valley resembles a 1985 Times Square.  Marty and Doc realize Biff time traveled to give the almanac to his younger self to become a multimillionaire, killed George McFly and married Lorraine.  When Biff tries to kill Marty, he travels to 1955 with Doc.  Marty follows Biff to the dance, eventually retrieves and destroys the almanac.  He then receives a Western Union letter from Doc, who has been transported back to 1885 from the lightning strike.  When Marty tells a 1955 Doc this news, he faints, having just helped the other Marty return to 1985.

Back To The Future Part II was not initially in the cards, but after the incredible box office success of the first movie, development began on a sequel.  Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson and Thomas Wilson would return while Claudia Wells and Crispin Glover would not, due to family illness and contract negotiations respectively.  Principal photography began in the winter of 1989 and Michael J. Fox would once again pull double duty filming this and Family Ties.  Back To The Future Part II didn't quite make the same splash at the box office (or with critics) as its predecessor due to its somewhat confusing plot.  The set design for 2015 Hill Valley was quite impressive however, though we're still waiting on those floating hoverboards.

It then cuts back to Bushnell Avenue, where Biff throws the ball onto the second story porch of 1803...
