The Goonies (1985)

During their last weekend together, a group of kids in Astoria, Oregon known as The Goonies are on a quest to save their families' homes from facing foreclosure.  With an old treasure map in hand, they set forth to track down the treasure of the legendary pirate One-Eyed Willy.  But hot on their trail are The Fratellis, a crime family whose hideout leads the way to the gold.  The Goonies endure a myriad of booby traps along the way and a really cool waterslide before reaching Willy's ship.  They escape The Fratellis thanks to youngest brother Sloth and save the day and their houses with some of the treasure.


Whether its Data's invention malfunctions, Stef and Mouth's bickering or Chunk's food cravings, The Goonies is all-around fun.  It was a fan of critics and filmgoers and remains a classic for Gen Xers.  Cyndi Lauper served as musical director for the soundtrack, scoring another top ten hit with The Goonies 'R' Good Enough.  What wasn't good enough was the God-awful Nintendo game released by Konami.

Astoria Coffee Company

The pirate ship scenes were filmed on Stage 16 at Warner Brothers.  It's the largest soundstage on the lot and one of the tallest in the world...
