Yeah, it was a bit strange they flew into Kapalua though it is more visually appealing than the main Maui airport.Brian Koppelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03645779433449204892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8276468105903925222.post-6007134102301715672022-12-06T13:08:00.987-05:002022-12-06T13:08:00.987-05:00I just watched the Maui episode on Rewind TV. It’s too bad they didn’t give credit to the hotel on the show. It’s also strange that the Seavers flew into Kapalua (the most extreme Northern part of Maui) and stayed in Makena which is very South. It was sad for us to see that the Maui Prince was taken over by another name on a return trip to Maui. Even more sad, now that it is completely gone. At least we have pictures. I was bummed I got there just two weeks too late back in '16, but am fortunate to still see the hotel before it was torn down. I read it was happening some time this year so I didn't bother going back down to see it again this year.Brian Koppelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03645779433449204892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8276468105903925222.post-86507439444990672062018-08-29T20:01:57.822-04:002018-08-29T20:01:57.822-04:00I live on Maui and I went down to Maluaka Beach to...I live on Maui and I went down to Maluaka Beach today and the old Maui Prince Hotel is currently being demolished. The whole side of the southern wing which was used in "Growing Pains Aloha," is being destroyed by the long arm of a huge bulldozer. They have a huge jet of water squirting the side of the building to minimize dust as the arm of the bulldozer reaches up and slowly tears away at the building. It's really sad as a Growing Pains fan as I love that episode so much, and I know a lot of people are really upset about it: longtime Maui residents as well as people who vacationed at the hotel over the years. They are tearing the whole thing down to put expensive condos. Oh well, at least Maluaka Beach is still the same.

And the estate of Pahonu, where Magnum PI was filmed was also recently demolished. Great losses in 80s primetime TV history...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8276468105903925222.post-11691496324206501302018-08-15T22:41:25.560-04:002018-08-15T22:41:25.560-04:00Thanks. I didn't notice til later that there was land in the shot, though it did look different. But thanks for the info. I actually stayed at the Marriott while I was there and went snorkeling off Lana'i. I may have taken a shot from the boat. I'll have to check. But the boat scene is incorrect, the land in the background on Growing Pains is actually the southern tip of the island of Lana'i, as seen from Lahaina:

https://travelersxc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Marriotts-Maui-Ocean-Club-Molokai-Maui-Lanai-Towers-Lahaina-HI_6.jpg

The scene was filmed off the Lahaina Coast. The comparison picture you have is not the right locale, the landmass is quite jagged.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
