New Year's Evil (1980)

New Year's Evil is a forgotten gem of the early '80s slasher era, even though it's more a thriller/comedy than a slasher.  Pinky Tuscadero from Happy Days (1974-1984) is Hollywood's punk rock queen bee who receives disturbing/unintentionally hilarious phone calls during her televised special that someone will be murdered when the clock strikes midnight in each time zone, ending with her!  It's certainly not the most captivating flick, but enjoyable nonetheless.

New Year's Evil was filmed in Hollywood, North Hollywood and Van Nuys, CA

Location: The Strip
Address: Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, CA

The picture was taken in the opposite direction, but you can see the Church of $cientology sign.

Location: The Hotel
Address: The former Holiday Inn at Hollywood & Highland, Hollywood, CA

Back in 1998, this area went under major construction.  The Times Square of the west coast finally opened in 2001.  The Holiday Inn was now called The Renaissance Hollywood Hotel.  Today it is known as the Loews Hollywood Hotel.  The panoramic rooftop restaurant is still recognizable. i don't believe it has been confirmed if the interiors were shot here as well.

Location: Dales Jr. Liquor Store
Address: 12500 Oxnard Street, North Hollywood, CA

Location: Golden Arrow Liquor Store
Address: 13231 Victory Boulevard, Van Nuys, CA

Golden Arrow is now a Walgreens, but the strip mall across the street looks the same.
